The challenging site called for an expert team who could combine PIANC Type Approved systems with anti-corrosion and wildlife protection measures.

The recently completed facility is the freight supply and fumigation point for a regional LNG development. RoRo cargo vessels of 25,000t displacement will call at a berth equipped with eighteen QCN1200 systems on the side face, and seven QCN800 systems on the stern ramp.

Impressed Current Cathodic Protection was designed into each system with electrical continuity to extend service life and maintain structural integrity.

QuayQuip also conducted extensive Finite Element analysis. This ensured the correct safety factors for line loads from belted vessels. Service life will be extended even further by the substantial wear allowance of extra-thick UHMW-PE pads.

Species in the fragile local ecosystem needed protection from ship-borne intruders. The berth incorporated ‘rat-run’ rails into the fender systems as a robust first line of defence.

Ten cast steel T-head bollards rated to 60 tonnes were also supplied as part of the vessel mooring arrangement.
