QuayQuip facings for Kenya’s latest naval vessel

The Kenyan Navy’s latest vessel, the KNS Jasiri, has docked in her new home port of Mombasa at a berth equipped with QuayQuip fender facings.
At QuayQuip’s advice the jetty’s existing timber facings were replaced by piles installed in front of the quay structure, protected by machined UHMW-PE facings. QuayQuip supplied 41 sets of panels with 6000×300mm contact areas, each 100mm thick.
The KNS Jasiri is equipped for both oceanographic and combat roles. She sailed from Euromarine’s yard in Barcelona, Spain, in mid-August.
The order was placed at the end of May 2012. QuayQuip delivered the panels ready for installation less than ten weeks later, well in time for the commissioning ceremony on 29 August.
The ceremony was attended by the Chief of the Defence Forces, the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Foreign Relations. During the ceremony, Defence Minister Yusuf Haji formally commissioned the KNS Jasiri into the Kenyan Navy.
