Element fenders for Torry Quay deepwater berth

QuayQuip have supplied Element Fenders to a new deep-water berth in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Torry Quay in Aberdeen has been rebuilt as a 300m deep water berth as part of Scotland’s National Renewable Infrastructure Plan. The £19 million redevelopment on the south bank of the River Dee offers better aligned berths and a stronger concrete deck for improved heavy lifting. It will primarily serve oil and gas supply vessels heading for nearby North Sea facilities.

Part of the new ‘Berth Seven’, in the Greenhead Base of Lerwick Harbour in the Shetland Isles, has entered service well ahead of schedule. QuayQuip supplied fendering for the project, a deep-water berth which will initially serve pipe laying vessels operated by Technip on behalf of Maersk North Sea Oil UK Ltd.

The new berth is equipped with 27 QPA500 Arch Fender systems in various lengths. The QPA Arch Fender’s robust UHMW-PE facing lowers friction between the vessel and fender system, and offers the extra protection required by an exposed site.

Huge new Parallel Motion system for Barrow Island

QuayQuip has delivered another set of fender systems to the Barrow Island LNG facility in West Australia.

The centrepiece of the installation was a complete dolphin, preassembled in the factory for drop-in installation from the delivery vessel. The structure was equipped with two quad-cone (QCN1300) Parallel Motion fender systems, each rated to 3.2 megajoules.

New systems for Pointe Noire, Republic of Congo

QuayQuip will supply the Port of Pointe Noire, Republic of Congo, with a comprehensive upgrade to its fendering and mooring equipment.

Working with contractors SAIPEM (part of the ENI group) QuayQuip will deliver 54 sets of QCN 1400 Cone Fender systems with 3.45m panels. Related orders include Tricorn Bollards rated to 150t, chosen for their superior line angle characteristics, and a full set of access ladders.

Pointe Noire has been a busy port since its opening seventy years ago. The first deepwater port south of Dakkar, it lies 150km North of the mouth of the River Congo, and connects to a transnational rail network via a nearby terminal. The port serves container ships, oil tankers and bulk carriers.

Oil Berth Renewal at Otago, New Zealand

QuayQuip has designed a novel update for an oil berth structure at Otago, New Zealand. Built in the early 20th century, the concrete quay face is too narrow to accept a large, conventionally mounted cone system.

One proposal was to remove sections of the quay, inserting new concrete blocks with a far larger mounting area. The necessary civil work would be expensive and prolong downtime.

Gorgon LNG – Initial Works on Barrow Island

QuayQuip supplied complete systems for a recent project at an LNG supply facility, from steel and fender units to the smallest fixings.

Full traceability for several thousand parts is never trival. Every fender supplied had its own ITP (Inspection and Test Plan) among other documentation. A team of twenty QuayQuip inspectors and engineers worked at the factory to monitor the process in fine detail.
