QuayQuip mooring solutions are built to reliably restrain all ships types and configurations in any site conditions long into the future.

Our bollards and mooring pins are produced in many shapes, sizes and anchor patterns. The preferred material is cast steel for durability and strength, but for those seeking traditional materials we also produce cast-iron bollards.

QuayQuip "CFM" Technology

CFM_manufactureCFM or "controlled failure mode" bollards were pioneered by Eurotech Benelux (QuayQuip's sister company) to overcome the explosive failure of ductile and grey cast iron bollards when overloaded. CFM is also the only safe alternative to the unpredictable behaviour of break-off bolts. This unique technology eliminates the threat to operator safety and structural damage caused by failures of cast iron and break-off bolts.

CFM_bollard_120x168Using FMEA methods, computer modelling and extensive load tests, large overloads of a CFM bollard lead to a gradual, progressive and predictable failure manner at the specially designed trunk weld.

CFM is a safe and reliable technology developed in conjunction with Port of Rotterdam. Carefully chosen materials, weld profiles and sizes determine the ultimate load capacity of the bollard which then slowly and gradually fails in a controlled way. A lengthy test programme led to the first highly successful installations over a decade ago and now CFM bollards are the only permitted in a growing number of world-class ports.

CFM technology by QuayQuip is set to replace conventional materials and manufacturing methods. Bollards are easily be made with custom base plates to match existing anchors, so retrofitting is simple, fast and inexpensive. QuayQuip can also do load calculations and tests for new and existing anchor arrays.

Avoid the unknown hazards of cast iron bollards or break-off bolts and contact QuayQuip to discuss our full range of CFM bollards available to suit almost every port.

QuayQuip has a large bollard programme with many sizes and patterns from under 50kN to over 2500kN capacity - something to suit every type of vessel, port and environment.

Primary types are explained below, but speak to QuayQuip about the mooring solution best suited to your project.

Tricorn_120x160The unique three-lobed ‘crown’ or Tricorn provides the best holding power of any bollard in its class, with more security at large line angles. The generous trunk diameter also reduces mooring line stresses. CFM bollards are available in capacities up to 2500kN.

Pin_Bollard_220x157Recessed and Pin type bollards are commonly used where flush fitting is needed – to avoid protrusions and hull damage. Common applications include locks and waterways where bollards are placed at convenient single or multiple levels for vessels to moor without assistance from shore-based crew.

Designs are available in modern and classic styles with capacities starting at 40kN, right up to 300kN for the Rotterdam class units. There are further choices of integral or separate anchorages, as well as replaceable or permanent mooring pins. Profiles units are made to suit all standard sheet pile sections. Custom designs and bespoke units to replace obsolete patterns are also available.

Mooring_Traveller_220x157Transits through locks take longer when mooring lines need frequent adjustments. QuayQuip’s Mooring Travellers overcome this problem by replacing conventional moorings with a dedicated floating units that rise and fall with the vessel even with tensioned mooring lines.

Cast-in rails are highly durable – typically with 50 year minimum service life – as are other system parts. The bollard itself is supported above a buoyant wheeled bogie, making sure the bollard is always presenting at a safe and convenient level for crew. Faster transits benefit lock and barge operators alike and save costs.
